On September 16-17, 2024, the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Sønderborg hosted the annual Climate Neutrality Conference, a key event gathering international experts, researchers, and policymakers to explore pathways toward sustainable and climate-neutral societies.
Gary Banta, Head of the Department of Biology at SDU, actively participated in the conference, presenting some of the latest findings from the ARCADIA EU Mission Project. His presentation highlighted collaborative research efforts involving Odense Kommune and Wageningen University & Research, developed with the scientific contributions of:
- Sara Egemose (Wester)
- Paula Canal Vergés
- Marie Helledie Olsen
- Sara Gentilini
- Haley Kujawa
- Gary Overvad Frederiksberg
Key outcomes from ARCADIA’s research
During his talk, Banta shared insights on the role of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in climate neutrality, emphasizing:
- The integration of NbS in urban and rural environments.
- Effective water management strategies developed through interdisciplinary research.
- The importance of policy support in advancing climate-neutral initiatives.
Collaborative research for climate action
The findings presented at the conference demonstrate the power of cross-sector collaboration in tackling climate challenges. By working alongside municipalities and research institutions, ARCADIA is fostering innovative solutions that align with the European Union’s sustainability goals.
Looking ahead
The Climate Neutrality Conference 2024 reaffirmed the urgent need for scientific expertise, practical implementation, and policy alignment to achieve climate neutrality. ARCADIA remains committed to contributing cutting-edge research and actionable strategies to support this transition.
