The Co-Innovation Lab in Zabok focuses on transforming the town’s urban centre into a climate resilient and community oriented space. Building on successful green interventions already implemented in Zabok’s suburban areas, the lab brings these ideas into the heart of the town, creating a connected and inclusive green network.
Co-innovation Lab 4 is a joint collaboration between the North West Croatia Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA), the Krapina-Zagorje County, Zagorje Development Agency (ZARA), the University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, and GDi LTD.
Bridging Suburban and Urban Green Spaces

Lab 4 explores how green infrastructure and NbS can seamlessly connect suburban and urban environments. By integrating green corridors, shaded public spaces, and water-sensitive surfaces into both urban and industrial landscapes, the lab aims to improve microclimatic conditions, support biodiversity, and enhance everyday life in the city centre. The result is a cohesive green system that strengthens accessibility, encourages active mobility, and creates welcoming public spaces for all generations.
How the Lab Develops
- Engagement and co-creation led through participatory workshops and events hosted at reGENERATOR
- Pilot interventions such as green corridors, shaded public areas, and permeable surfaces that improve urban comfort and connectivity
- Urban synergies that build on suburban successes and extend them into the town centre
- Monitoring and scaling to assess impact, refine solutions, and expand successful approaches across Zabok and beyond
