In the Funen Region (Denmark), the Co-Innovation Lab 3 will build on the results from Lab 2 and continue the focus on Vejrup Stream and the upland. It takes the next step toward implementing nature-based strategies that work across entire landscapes. The co-innovation Lab 3 focuses on creating shared tools and models, as well as stronger collaboration between municipalities, researchers, and communities.
Mapping Nature-based Solutions across the catchment
Researchers at the Southern Denmark University (SDU) are developing the framework for biotic and ecosystem services assessment in relation to selected NBs in the catchment area of Vejrup å, building on the initiatives from Co-Innovation Lab 2 results. Modelling for flood risk mitigation will be set up within the catchment area as well. The goal is to provide decision-makers with better tools to integrate nature-based solutions into planning and development.
Learning from experience
SDU will conduct interviews with municipalities across Funen to gather best practices on previous
stakeholder involvement and negotiation with landowners. These insights will feed into local and
national efforts to implement area plans for land use change underway, ensuring that climate
adaptation is both effective and inclusive.
Sharing knowledge across borders
In collaboration between Odense Municipality and Odense Fjord Collaboration, the project will host a knowledge exchange workshop to wrap up the results from the interviews with landowners collaboration, and negotiation efforts. This will ensure that lessons learned are shared widely, paving the way for coordinated action in the future.
Fair financing for Nature-based Solutions
Odense Municipality and VandCenter Syd are supporting a new initiative to move from site-specific water management to a catchment-based approach when developing new urban and business areas in Odense. As part of the work, the partners will look into:
- What are the different parties’ obligations and capabilities for implementing NbS?
- Who can be financial stakeholders?
- What are key risks to consider when working across municipal borders and co-funding schemes?
